All men of African diasporal descent in the Northwest are invited to submit a photograph for Seen; images will be reviewed by the curatorial team in December 2013, and selections will be printed and exhibited at PCNW concurrent with Question Bridge: Black Males from January 16–March 8, 2014.
In one photograph, what would you say? Digital files should be emailed to seen@pcnw.org with “Seen” in the subject line, or dropped off on a CD. Image resolution should be at least 300 dpi for quality printing. Tell us about your picture —stories or titles are encouraged. If your image is selected for inclusion you will be notified via email in late December.

Holly Andres is a Portland photographer who creates stunningly beautiful and evocative color photographs that deal with personal narrative and feminist subjectivity. Her imagery relies on the tension between an apparently approachable subject matter and a dark, sometimes disturbing subtext. Andres will discuss her work from the past six years in this illustrated lecture, The Homecoming.

Martín Chambi created a comprehensive body of photographs from 1920-1950 of Andean culture and history, documenting archeological sites, native peoples, and local customs. His grandson, Teo Allain Chambi, also a photographer, has preserved an impressive archive of original glass plates, photographic images, and ephemera detailing his grandfather’s many awards and contributions. Mr. Allain Chambi will discuss Martín Chambi’s work and his mission to educate the public about this important Peruvian artist.
