Helpful Tips for Better Digital Photos

Before going out to make your Chase the Light photographs, join PCNW faculty instructor Melinda Hurst Frye for this helpful session on getting the most out of your digital photos. Melinda will take you through an ideal workflow, from digital camera capture, basic editing, and resizing your images properly for upload. Must be registered for Chase The Light 2022 to participate.

Experiment with Alternative Process

Kick-off your Chase The Light 2022 experience on Saturday, June 11th in the darkroom at PCNW making cyanotypes, lumen prints, and chemigrams with PCNW Certificate Program graduate Leah Freed.

Bring whatever creative objects and translucent materials you can think of and PCNW will supply the paper and chemistry (materials fee of $20 covers the cost of supplies). Must be registered for Chase The Light 2022 to participate.

Wet Cyanotype AT-HOME KIT

Explore the unique qualities of Wet Cyanotype Printing as part of your Chase The Light 2022 experience! Follow along in a pre-recorded tutorial with PCNW faculty Gina White to learn the basics of this fun process – Wet Cyanotype is all about letting go of some control and just enjoying the inherent magic.

Supplies are limited and kits must be ordered by June 5th, 2022 to guarantee delivery in time for Chase The Light. For anyone local to the Seattle, WA area: please plan to pick up your kit from PCNW.

You must be registered for Chase The Light 2022 to purchase a materials kit and to access the online tutorial.

MATERIALS KIT INCLUDES ($40):
Cyanotype sensitizer: 1 bottle Part A & 1 bottle Part B
2 Droppers labeled for Part A & B
1 Sponge brush
12 Post cards
1 Condiment cup for mixing sensitizer

Portraits In Nature

Would you like to escape from the city to create your Chase The Light images? Bring along a portrait subject, human or animal, if you can, and meet us in Lake Sammamish State Park for some beautiful natural world locations. We will provide guidance on creating portraits with natural light. Along the way, keep an eye out for elements in the natural world that also offer interesting subjects.

You will be led by Anna Ream and Harini Krishnamurthy, two PCNW Certificate Program alumni who live in Issaquah.

Park in the lot closest to Tibbetts Beach and meet beside the Rotunda Shelter (B on map)

Open to all levels of photographer with any kind of camera, including your mobile phone.

Photo Collage with Serrah Russell

Tune in to learn about the creative possibilities of photocollage from renowned Seattle-based artist Serrah Russell. This online demo will give you the tools to make your own photocollages for this year’s Chase The Light.

PHOTO WALK: West Seattle Excursion

Join Kate Hailey for a photowalk along the Alki Beach Trail in West Seattle. We will meet at the Pier at Seacrest Park where the water taxi docks, outside of Marination Ma Kai. From there we will head towards Alki Beach. Enjoy views of the Seattle Skyline to Elliott Bay, exploring urban landscapes, street photography, and even a bit of landscape photography. Use this opportunity to capture images for your Chase The Light submission.

Open to all levels of photographer with any kind of camera, including your mobile phone.
