DESCRIPTION

Have you ever wanted to learn how to photograph the beautiful night sky? Have you wanted to try light painting under the stars? In this multiple-day workshop, we will be in the field learning how to properly set up and process our images. The first weekend, we will head out on two different nights to unique locations (each within 90 minutes of Seattle) to photograph the night sky during the August new moon, the darkest nights of the month. These first two nights of the workshop are in the field, learning how to get the most out of your camera and camera settings. We will meet up about an hour before sunset and work until well after dark. Much of the fun of night photography is experimenting and we will take that to heart and play with many different techniques and concepts (light painting, night portraiture, star trails, etc.) The following weekend, we will meet via Zoom to spend time in the digital darkroom learning about processing, printing, and sharing our images using various software packages. You will be sent a list of recommended gear for this workshop, but you do not need to purchase anything special. Access to a tripod is required. A more detailed handout about equipment will be sent out several weeks before the workshop.
