The Antiques Road Show has imparted appraisers with an air of omniscience. The reality behind valuing artwork and collectibles is a far more involved process that includes market research, analysis and, often, problem solving. Certified photography appraiser Jennifer Stoots will pull back the curtain on the art of appraising in a discussion of the different types of appraisals and what they’re used for, how a single artwork can have multiple values depending on the purpose of the valuation, and what the IRS is looking for.
