April 16, 2022 | Saturday 12:30-5:30pm
Faculty: Kate Hailey
In-person
$150

Join Kate Hailey for this one-day workshop to survey concepts in portrait photography both in the studio and in the field. From available light to continuous lights and speedlights, this will be an exploration into a multitude of techniques. Learn about composition, what to look for, what to avoid. Learn to use light to create mood and tell a story. Start the day in the studio at PCNW as Kate demonstrates working with lighting from the essentials to more creative techniques that push through tradition. We will cover essential concepts including Rembrandt, Split, beauty, high key, low key, rim light and more. Then we shift into more creative uses of light, to add color, mood, and story. Attendees will have access to a variety of types of lighting from Speedlights/Flashes to Continuous lights, Gels, lighting modifiers and more. Attendees will gain a firm understanding of these tools, how they work and how they can use them. Later in the session, the group will work both in the Daylight Studio and venture outdoors near PCNW as Kate demonstrates techniques for working in available light no matter the conditions. Kate will share tips on creating compelling compositions and making the most of a single location.
