This year’s PHOLUST marks our 6th Annual Benefit Auction. We could not be more thrilled with the outstanding level of works by emerging and internationally renowned artists. As we do every year, over the next 2 weeks we will be sharing some of our favorite pieces, as well as some themes and interesting trends represented in this year’s auction.
The summer might be over but that doesn’t mean we can’t still dream of swimming. French artist Karine Laval invokes that nostalgia in “Poolscape #3,” a piece from a new series that explores the friction between the real and the imaginary world reflected in the surface of pools. Meanwhile, J Bennett Fitts‘ “Victroville” features an abandoned motel pool seemingly surrounded by only the desert, not very different from S. Gayle Stevens‘ stunning Wet Plate Collodion tintype.
Lastly, Tim Simmons‘ Icelandic “Blue Lagoon #6” looks almost magical, although we would suggest you check the water before you jump in. Same goes for Peter de Lory‘s stunning moon-lit Palouse Falls… dive at your own risk!
