Through Line of the City

In September of 2021, PCNW hosted a workshop with photographer Richard Renaldi entitled Through Line of the City. Over the course of several days, Richard together with PCNW Programs Chair Eirik Johnson, co-led a group of participants to collectively photograph along the entirety of Madison Street, the only major thoroughfare that bisects the city, from the western shores of Seattle’s waterfront to its eastern edge at Lake Washington. Along the way, they photographed the people they met, small businesses, architecture, parks, nightclubs, and community organizations.

On their final day together, the group worked together to edit and design a photographic zine with a selection of their images. It was a unique collective effort which resulted in compelling photographs of all kinds that tell the story of Seattle and the diverse neighborhoods and communities that are connected along Madison Street.
