Born in New York City in 1961, David Maisel’s most current, multi-chaptered work, Black Maps present aerial photographs of environmentally impacted sites and explores the aesthetics and politics of radically human-altered environments, framing the issues of contemporary landscape with equal measures of documentation and metaphor. Maisel is the recipient of numerous grants, awards, fellowships, including an Individual Artist Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
