Sunshady Days: A 50 year Retrospective of Bumbershoot
On view: November 9 – December 7, 2023
Artist reception: Thursday, November 9th from 6-8pm
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Bumbershoot music and arts festival. It is an extraordinary weekend that brings together community through creative collaborations. As part of that, Photographic Center Northwest partnered with Bumbershoot and A/NT Gallery to present a two-day crowd-sourced exhibition of 50 years of photographs through the lens of the audience. From bands backstage to children with balloons to dancing penguins, the exhibition embraces five decades of art, music, fashion and community from our region. The artworks represent many different perspectives—from professionals on assignment to concert-goers documenting their families.
The rich creativity that is showcased during the Bumbershoot weekend exists in the everyday cultural fabric of Seattle. Sunshady Days champions that talent beyond the festival and features musicians, photographers, curators, and art lovers alike. This exhibition is the second iteration of Sunshady Days and extends the visibility of the artists and artworks. Each evening throughout the exhibition we will feature a street-facing slideshow of all the artworks that were featured in both exhibitions.
