Early photographers discovered and used most of what we now call “alternative processes” over a century ago. Today, contemporary artists are taking these traditional methods and infusing them with new ideas, expanding the possibilities of what photography can be. This exhibition showcases a range of techniques from cyanotype to chlorophyll printing and, although rooted deep in the history of the photographic medium, the work is inspired, innovative, and lies within the fringe of modern alternative process photography.

Artists include:

Daniel Carrillo + Eirik Johnson

John Chiara

Binh Danh

Jenny Hansen Das

Sean McFarland

Liz Steketee

In addition to Fringe Practice, Alternative Methods in Photography, PCNW is excited to feature student work in a companion exhibition, titled PCNW Student Study Series – Photogravure.

Throughout the last several years, Ray Bidegain has taught Polymer Photogravure Printmaking workshops at PCNW. This companion exhibition is just a small sampling of the creative pieces that have been produced by some of Ray’s students throughout the years.

Artists include:

Ray Bidegain, Cheryl Hanna-Truscott, Cian Hayes, Victoria Hunter, Sally Kim-Miller, Julia Kuskin, Marianne McCoy, Danielle Quenell, and Anna Ream

The exhibition, Fringe Practice, is made possible by the generous support of 4 Culture.
