PCNW Member’s Photowalk: Freeway Park
April 26, 2025 | Saturday 2-4pm
Free w/ Registration (Members Only)
Join photographer Annabel Clark and fellow PCNW members for a unique exploration of one of Seattle’s hidden architectural gems: Jim Ellis Freeway Park. Designed by Lawrence Halprin and Angela Danadjieva, the park opened in 1976, reconnecting the Downtown and First Hill neighborhoods divided by the construction of I-5. The 5-acre park contains a maze of brutalist architectural forms, a canopy of mature trees and seasonal blooms. The distinct spaces lend themselves to large community gatherings and a peaceful solitude above the city’s busiest corridor. We’ll meet at Seneca Plaza at 2:00 PM, where Riisa Conklin, Executive Director of Freeway Park Association (https://www.freewayparkassociation.org/), will share insights into the park’s history, future plans, and the Lid I-5 movement (https://lidi5.org/). From there, we’ll tour the park, explore surrounding neighborhoods, and have time to create photographs on our own. Bring any camera(s), and tripods are optional. Please note: This location has stairs.
