This image is from the series “Wandering, Wondering” where Seok-Woo Song looks back retrospectively on memories of him in his twenties. Driven by sentiments of loss, isolation and emptiness, he stages fictional scenes fraught with psychological tension, to convey narratives intended for the younger generation who are struggling to adapt to a chaotic and rapidly changing world.
SEOK-WOO SONG (b. 1993, Seoul, South Korea; currently lives and works in Seoul) received his B.F.A in Photography and Media, Daegu Arts University, and M.F.A in Photographic Design, Hongik University graduate School of Industrial Arts. He is currently attending his master’s degree in Fine Arts, School of Visual Arts, Korea National University of Arts, Seoul, Korea.
Main awards includes received Winner, 8th Singapore International Photography Festival Open Call Showcase 2022-Portfolio Artists(2022), Finalists, The 2nd Banshan Photography Award(2022), 18th Photography Criticism Awards(2021), has been selected as the best artist in the ‘BELT’ photography category(2021), ‘Keep an eye on Asian Artist’ Selected Artist in ART CONTEMPORAIN ASIATIQUE(2020) and others. His works are introduced in VOGUE(2021), VDCM(2021, 2018), PHOTOART(2020, 2018) and others, works are housed in Krasnoyarsk Museum Centre Ploshchad Mira, Busan Museum of Art, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Czong Institute for Contemporary Art Museum and others.
Seok-Woo Song was one of Photolucida’s 2022 Critical Mass Top 50 artists. This image was selected to be included in PCNW’s 2023 exhibition, Imminent Existence, which showcased one piece of each of the Top 50 artists.
