Birthe Piontek
Originally from Germany, Birthe Piontek moved to Canada after receiving her MFA from the University of Essen in 2005. Piontek’s project “The Idea of North” won the Critical Mass Book Award in 2009, and was published as a monograph in 2011. Piontek’s work has appeared in a number of international publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Le Monde, Wired and The New Yorker among others. She is a member of the Piece of Cake Collective (POC), and spoke at PCNW this summer as part of the POC’s annual gathering. She is based in Vancouver BC, and is represented by Charles Guice Contemporary in New York.
