Description:
This three day workshop will offer students a hands-on opportunity to explore the methods and techniques of large format photography and then practice these techniques in the field. The first day will cover concepts of advantages of large-format photography and proper camera use. On the second day, participants will be able to put into practice what they’ve learned with an afternoon photographing subjects including architecture and landscape off-site. On the final day of the workshop, participants will process the black and white sheet film by hand and create contact prints from their negatives. Other topics covered will be the nature of one’s movement, experiences, conversations, and thought processes related to working with a large format camera. Through this workshop, participants will explore and consider the differences of engagement with their subjects, and the inherent aesthetic results from using the large-format camera.

PCNW will provide a limited number of 4×5 cameras for student use during the workshop; students who own a 4×5 camera are encouraged to bring their own. Film and paper for shooting and printing during the workshop will be supplied by PCNW.
