Create a sketch book of ideas, inspirations, experiences, and feelings about your photography that will help you get more in touch with the significance of the images you are creating. Gum Dichromate Printing

Wed 1-5:20pm June 24-August 5 $615 + $150 lab ($35 materials fee) Jahnavi Lisa Barnes

Learn Gum Bichromate photographic printing. Gum, one of a family of processes utilizing dichromate salts, is one of the most versatile of alternative print processes and unlimited in terms of creative possibilities. This class will give an introduction to mixing, coating, exposure and registration techniques. Mix your own light sensitive emulsions with watercolor pigments to print new works from black and white images. Using existing negatives or prints you will learn to make enlarged digital negatives with Photoshop and then print these on fine art papers hand coated with your own light sensitive photographic emulsions. Adding watercolor pigments with each layer, you build your image tone by tone, color by color, through this contact printing process. The class will have an opportunity to see historical and contemporary work by artists working with these processes, and will explore new areas of printmaking based on student projects and images. Those studying this 19th century process have an opportunity to re-interpret their work into a medium which easily allows for use of text, multiple imagery, combined imagery, or simple single color images defined by paint on paper.
