Become aware of how light shapes every photograph. Master the fundamentals of studio strobe, tungsten lights, and portable flash to create photographs that match your vision. This course will cover basic studio safety and operation, considerations for lighting choices (natural, studio, strobe, tungsten, fluorescent, etc.), color temperature, metering, light ratios, using mixed lighting (i.e. flash and ambient), using modifiers, and aesthetics of light in photography. Digital SLR (preferred) or film camera may be used. Materials for this course will be discussed during the first class so that students may purchase the most appropriate equipment. Students should be prepared to spend 3-5 hours a week on assignments for this course; lab rental fees will apply for students completing assignments outside of class. A list of student rental rates is listed on the hours and rates page. (3 credits; fulfills Certificate Program requirement)

Prerequisites: Photo I + Intro to Color or Digital equivalent (ie Photo II Digital)
