Description:
This class will be a chance to explore the ABCs of photography through hands-on exploration of the camera obscura and pinhole camera, the cyanotype, the photogram and the digital flatbed scan among other approaches. Lectures will survey historical and contemporary work done by artists using these techniques and provide basic instruction, and importantly lots of hands-on time. The idea behind this class is that there are many photographic possibilities beyond the DSLR or 4×5 view camera, and that the exploration of these processes can serve to inform the other areas of our practice (at any level). These sessions serve to deepen peoples understanding of light, the image, and what it means to make photographic objects that have a physical presence. Guest speakers will provide their perspectives on these techniques. The Photographic center will supply most materials. This course is for anyone with a sense of adventure and a passion for photography.
