Creating and Lighting Constructed Worlds

Jun 21-Aug 2

Instructor: Bill Finger
Thursdays 6-9 from June 21-August 2
$450 +$35 Materials

Explore ways to make dioramas, terrariums, sets and other miniature or constructed scenes, then learn how to creatively and effectively light your creations. Students will have a chance to create constructions/images based on a real place (or event), build an image out of a drawing or concept, or create fictional worlds in the natural environment to photograph in the field. Students in this class will have a chance to work both in the studio, and the field, and to visit the workspace of the instructor who will share his own way of working in this genre. Demos will help guide construction as well as photographic approaches, and the class will view work by a host of other artists creating imagery based on this premise.

Students may choose to focus on elements of close up, or macro photography, but also narrative possibilities within this way of working. The class is open to anyone interested in learning to light unique objects (ie 3D artwork) or materials, and students are encouraged to experiment with different tabletop lighting scenarios. (2 credits)
